My Christmas Present

Last year Monte bought me a nice camera. I {LOVE} my camera, but I have always kept it on the automatic mode. I had no clue how to really use it, but I knew I was missing out on most of its functions. Monte is always telling me that I have an eye for photography, so my Christmas present was an eight sessions photography class that I took in November.
Our first asignment was to take it off the automatic mode. At that moment I should of ran out of class and never looked back.
I am joking... a little.
I really enjoyed the class, but I often left class very overwhelmed with all the information that was given. The one major thing I did learn during those 8 weeks is that maybe photography isn't my calling. Too often my pictures look like these:

Yes, those were all meant to be pictures! So... now you are understanding where I am coming from, huh? I am thinking that the automatic mode was created for people like me who can pretend they know what they are doing! Needless to say, I have a LONG way to go! I'll keep you posted on my progress... if there is any. :-)

When you come in the spring I will give you some pointers:) I mostly like full manual but also Av/Tv settings. Here is a trick for you....first put it in full automatic and push the shutter half way to see what the camera thinks it should do for f-stop, shutter speed, and ISO and then switch over to one of the manual modes and put in those values. THEN switch them slightly up and down until you get your desired effect. The more you mess with it the better you will get:)

Well....a point and shoot - yeah that is what I do....on the auto button and I RARELY if ever do anything with any other button!!! I barely know how to delete a picture :)

Oh my GOSH I was just telling Truett that I want to do just what you did!
I can't even figure out the functions on my point and shoot! Dee Dee, will you teach me too? I commented that I wanted to come live with Jenn Cooper for a month so she could give me lessons (jk she'd probably have to have me kicked out of KC).

So, I have files and files of pictures that look like that! I have seen your good pictures and know that you are a FANTASTIC photographer :) That was a very thoughtful gift. . . certainly better than a toaster or a power tool ;)

I was just telling Tony the other night that I apparently do not have the gift of photography. All of the f-stop, shutter numbers get all jumbled in my head!
Usually I try to play around a little and then stick it on auto just to make sure I have some back up pictures that should turn out okay. :)
