Over Sight...

I had my first adoption over sight yesterday.

We have to have almost everything notarized for our dossier. The dossier is all the paperwork that will go to Ethiopia. We only have to have one thing state certified. That means going to the secretary of state at the state house and have them put a special seal and a special document attached to my notarized document. Confusing I know!

I am trying to get everything done in a timely fashion. So, the boys and I headed to the state house yesterday to get the document certified. It took all morning. It took a while just to find reasonable priced parking garage. Two of garages by the capital were $15 and $25 to park. So we went a few blocks away and did the mall parking for $1.50!

Then I had no clue where I needed to go. So, me being me, I went right to the capital building praying they'd tell me where I needed to go. The capital building is breathtaking. I have never been there before. Even Josiah whispered, "This is beautiful." He was right, it is beautiful! My pray was answered. They told me exactly where the secretary of state's office was.

We didn't have to wait too awfully long at the secretary of state office... thankfully! By this time the boys were done and the last thing they wanted to do was school while we waited. But this is exactly what we did. We found a spot on the floor and got some things done. We got lots of stares, but I guess I am getting used to them. :)

We had to rush home because I had a phone meeting with our case manager at 1pm. She told me something that I had completely overlooked. Whatever notary we use, their license can't expire for at least one year after the date that we have them notarize a document. For example, we had our document notarized on Septemeber 12, 2008. So their notary license can't expire until September 12, 2009. My heart was in my throat. How could I of overlooked that important detail? So I got out the document I had notarized and state notarized. There it was, the detail I didn't want to see, her license expires January of 2009. NOOOOOOO... so basically I have to redo everything that I did Monday morning. Luckily that is the only dossier document that I have had notarized.

Lesson learned...

The boys were not too thrilled when I told them we had to go back and do it again. They are learning to be patient with me.
