Green Smoothies

Last week when I did my budget busters I tagged Michelle. One of her busters was spending too much on her green smoothies. I was like, “green WHAT?” So I looked into it and I was amazed. I went out the next day and got all the things I needed. In one glass of my green smoothie I get FIFTEEN, yes 15 servings of fruits and vegetables. My boys still are not in love with them, so I keep trying new ingredients with theirs.

This is what I use in my smoothies: raw spinach, kale and many fruits (banana, apple, strawberries, raspberries). I have done some reading and I leave the steams on the strawberries (they have TONS of nutrients).

If you are going to go to her site, I suggest that you watch the video on the first page. She'll tell you what she puts in the smoothie. I just use the $40 blender that we have and it works fine, so far.

Monte thinks I am crazy, but it honestly tastes good or I wouldn't do it. I know I am treating my body well by getting in so many servings of fruits and vegetables. I haven’t been spending a lot on them either.

This sounds like something I'd like to try!

Wow. I watched to video- looks easy, but does it taste as good as she claims? How long have you been drinking this and what changes have you noticed? Just curious

Wow! Thanks for letting me know you tried this!

We've only been doing it for barely a month now. And we really, really like it. The cost really isn't as much as I first thought it to be. I hope to do a price breakdown by next week at the latest.

To get the kids to drink it, I would try starting with mostly fruit. Throw in a small handful of something green. Spinach seems to have the least taste. After a week or so of them drinking that, add a handful and 1/2. Work up from there.

We've "converted" about 5 of our friends to green smoothies. My oldest daughter (21 and a super picky eater) has started drinking them because she can feel the health benefits (like not craving sugar for the day and having more energy).

My youngest (10) loves them and asks for them daily. We're still working on the 13yo. She doesn't dislike it, just isn't something she reaches for. So I have to encourage and remind her.

Oh, and none of us like it much except my husband, if it's not super cold. So throw in a few ice cubes if the blender can take it.

I have been doing it off and on for about a week. I ran out of produce fast and so that is why I haven't had it each day.

If you drink it with a donut, you aren't going to see a lot of health benefits. :) I have been in a funk with eating well lately, so I am hoping this helps get me back on track.

If you use more fruit in it, it does taste really good. I have been adding A LOT more veggies for mine and it is still good, but it isn't as sweet. I do not add any sugar or stevia.

I am still working on the boys and I am going to try to ice cubes today!

Hope that helps!

I will try it! However it made me laugh because I had flashbacks to when my kids were babies and Jim would combine the stangest things in the blender. The worst was when he combined blueberries and broccoli...it was a strange blend of purple with green flecks...looked awful but the kids would still eat it!
