Road Trip

Last week we ventured to visit Monte's mom and step dad in Oklahoma. We left at night and drove the 10 hours straight through. I really think I am getting too old for that. It doesn't bother me while we are driving, but I feel like it takes me days to catch up on my sleep.

I remember when I was in college, I would drive home to Maine on 4 hours of sleep and not miss a beat. Those were the days.

We drive through the night because it is what works best for us. Monte and I trade off driving and since the kids sleep for most of it we don't hear, "Are we there yet?" every five minutes.

The first day we just hung out and went to a cousin's pool. At night we went to Kiddie Park. It is a little amusement park for toddlers/preschools and it is always a highlight of our trip. The rides cost no more than 50 cents, so they are able to ride a lot of rides for not a lot of money. That is my type of amusement park!

On the 4th of July we loaded everyone up and went to a water park. We visited this water park last year and had a blast. It is great because they allow kids to go down the water slides with their parents/grandparents. A lot of places don't allow that, so it is fun to do that with the boys. I don't so well keeping them above the water at the end of the slide, so John is the really the only kid that will go with me. They also have a little kids area with their slides that are their size. I didn't get any pictures while we were there. I was too busy having fun! That night we went and saw some fireworks.

We left Saturday night after we visited Kiddie Park one last time. We had a really good time and as always the time goes by too fast!

Monte drove most of the way home (I knew I needed to put this in here or I would hear about it) while I slept like a baby. Thanks honey!

Isaac is so handsome and getting so big!

John LOVES the water and is becoming a very strong swimmer.

That is some nasty juice

While on vacation in Oklahoma, at the in-law's house, John asked for some juice. I got into the fridge and gave him what I found. A couple of hours later, Isaac also asked for some juice, so I gave him the same thing I had given John. After one sip Isaac says, "Mom, this doesn't taste very good." I gave him "the look" because John drank it without saying a word. I thought Isaac was being dramatic, it is juice, how can it taste bad. So, I decided my pallet needed to try it, so I took a drink. Oh my, it was horrible. I looked at the bottle and saw the word LITE on it and knew right then it was the after taste of the substitute sugar. I dumped it out and gave Isaac some water. End of story? Of course not...

The next morning, my mother-in-law was consolidating things in the fridge. She grabbed the juice bottle with the thought of putting the rest of the juice in a smaller container. My father-in-law overheard her talking about this and asked, "What juice?". She showed him the bottle and he said, "That isn't juice, it's humming bird food." I guess my eyes told the whole story because the only words I could get out were, "You have got to be kidding me."

I think from now on he will be sure to label his bird food. Especially when the Alexander's come to visit.

Just for the record, humming bird food does not taste good.
