"Couch to 5K" update

Yesterday I finished week 4 of the 9 week course to be able to run a 5K! The thing that I do love about this program is you are doing it a little at a time.

Week 1:
run 1 minute
walk for a 1 1/2 minutes
repeat 8 times

Week 2:

run 1 1/2 minutes
walk 2 minutes
repeat 6 times

Week 3:
run 1 1/2 minutes
walk 1 1/2 minutes
run 3 minutes
walk 3 minutes
repeat twice

Week 4:
run 3 minutes
walk 1 1/2 minutes
run 5 minutes
walk 3 minutes
repeat twice

Week 4 was the hardest week yet. I went from running 9 minutes to 16 minutes! Yesterday when I was running I had the fitness center worker watching my every move. I am sure I looked like I was going to D I E. I am surprised she wasn't walking around my treadmill with an automatic external defibrillator in one hand and the phone in the other with 911 already dialed, just waiting to push send! Frankly, I thought a couple of times I would loose my breakfast all over the treadmill, but I pushed on. And before you start thinking that I am running too fast... friends... I am running at a 4.8mph. I am pretty sure people can walk faster than that!!! I am out of shape and I know it, but I am determined to run (not walk) the 5K on September 10th!

Your support for our family has completely blown us away! Thanks to each one of you who have given sacrificially to us as we start this next adoption to bring our son(s) home! My next post will be an adoption update... promise.

It is SO hard to go from "couch potato" to 5K!" I did that program almost three years ago when I was turning 40. Ran a 5K for my 40th birthday. Must admit that I've fallen off the band-wagon and I'm closer to a couch potato than being able to run a 5K. I have been getting out and walking each night, so moving in the right direction. I've been praying for you and your training while I walk....as well as for your adoption process! Praying that you will feel His pleasure with you and your obedience to His plan to set the lonely in families!
Blessings to you Tisha!

I can't remember if I posted this or just thought about it...LOL! I started an 18 week Moms on the Run program this year with the goal of a 5K by the end of August. Couldn't run a block in April and I ran my first 4 mile race EVER last weekend. There is just something so amazing about doing something you never thought you could do! AND what a GREAT MOTIVATION you have to do it! Awesome! There will be so many benefits from this. I have more energy and can parent a toddler so much better since I have started exercising too!!! Blessings! Jenny

You crack me up. Good thing the Y is connected to a hospital, huh? :) Great job training. How many days a week do you run? I don't doubt you'll do the 5K- no problem.
