Thankful for their health...

I never meant to take our health for granted, but until Tuesday, I secretly had been. Not realizing my mistake until I walked away from the pediatrician's office with a arm full of referrals and testing appointments. Nothing intense, at least that is my prayer, but it made me realize that I need to be so much more thankful than I am. There are so many families that we know that deal with major medical things day in and day out and I pray for them, but I fall short of being VERY thankful for our health.

On Tuesday all the kids had a dentist appointment AND their yearly physicals. Yes, that is 10 appointments. Since I decided at the last minute that I truly was insane and wanted to do all of them in one day, the dentist couldn't fit all the children in at the same time, so we had to go before the pediatrician appointment and then after. We have been in our current city for almost 4 years, but for me it is worth the 45 minute drive north to continue with the doctors we have always known and that is the reason I wanted to get them all done in one day.

The kids did wonderful. Their pediatrician appointment was 2 hours long and by the end of that Chloe was starting to fall apart. Then it got worse at the dentist, but thankfully we weren't there nearly as long. Chloe needs a nap and taking cat naps in her car seat were not cutting it. Now I know! But for being gone for 8 hours, she did great.

In the next few months here is our list of specialist we will be visiting:
Neurologist
Cardiologist
Allergist
Pediatric opthamologist
Relationship Development Intervention
stomach X-rays
More stool testing

I walked away slightly overwhelmed, but with not knowing anything about the girls' medical history and with the boys having some minor abnormalities (don't we all?), the doctor wants to get any slight issue tested further. It looks like this spring is going to be a busy one.

Thankfully everyone got a A+ at the dentist!!!!

Bless your heart! I bet that was some day. Thank you for the reminder of being thankful for our children's good health. I hope all is well after all the testing.
Blessings,

Totally understand. We have to drive 45 minutes no matter what- because we live in the middle of nowhere. Praying for all the further testing. I completely agree- we all take it for granted - way toooo often!

On the bright side. . . you will probably be able to claim a medical deducation on your taxes next year :)

Praying for peace among the feelings of frustration, and being overwhelmed. If you need to talk, I am walking down the same path ;)

That's a tough day. Glad they hung in there for ya.
I hope all of the testing goes well. I know when we were waiting to hear about Gideon, I was pretty confident everything was fine, but I was worried about that little chance something serious was going on. hang in there, girl!

Good gracious!!!! I am amazed that you managed all that in a day - and that YOU didn't completely fall apart along with Chloe. haha.

I know what you mean about taking health for granted. I always did too. When my hubby got sick 3 years ago, my eyes were opened to illness all around us. At times now, I have to fight the fear that rises when I consider how difficult it would be to cope with the emotions that must go along with having a very sick child.

I will be interested in hearing the results from all those specialists (YEESH!), especially the relationship intervention thing.

blech, i hate all that stuff. we have seen a fair number of docs and specialists and medical professionals of some sort in the last 10 months and oh my goodness i am tired of it!! but, i am thankful for you being a mama with a willing heart that wouldn't think twice about doing that for her children b/c it is just what you do-hang in there, find some good worship music to listen to in the car and make it a game with yourself to see how good you can get at scheduling appointments that work perfectly with your schedule-i used to do that with Zoe's appts at the crainial clinic, see if I could time it perfectly to drop the big girls off at school, dive 2.5 hrs to her appt, get lunch and be back in time to hop right in the pick up line at school-haha! it's the little things, right?? :)

We have been crazy here and I've not kept up with my blog stalking! I'm sorry I missed the girls big BIRTHDAY! Happy Birthday sweet girls and all the precious hair and now the Dr. stuff. I'm so proud that you held things together at the Dr.'s offices. Out of FIVE children, Chloe is the only one who crossed over to the other side? WOW!! Totally impressed! I agree with you about taking health for granted, I do the same, thank you for the reminder my friend! Love to you guys!
