We knew from the start of our adoption that we would be changing our children's names. The boys all have Biblical names and we wanted to be consistent with our adopted children. Little did we know that when we received our referral one of them would already have a Biblical name. As most everyone knows the girls' given names are Hanna and Desalech.
At the time I didn't know that Hanna was a common name in Ethiopia. Ethiopians pronounce it HA(the a has a short u sound)NNA. We had that name picked out if Isaac was going to be a girl. It has always been one of Monte's favorite names. It was the first of many confirmations that the Lord hand picked these girls just for us!
After the referral we had a dilemma on our hands. Do we change both of their names or just Desalech's? Monte, being a guy, had a lot easier time with it than I did. Chloe was a name we had talked about, but just a few weeks before "the call" I told Monte I couldn't decide on a girls name, so that must mean we were getting two boys. HA! My first look at Desalech and I knew right then her name was going to be Chloe! Thankfully Monte agreed.
In the end we did what we truly thought was best for the girls. We have also decided to add the H to Hanna's name. In doing this we now spell each of our children's name exactly how they appear in the Bible.
The girls names officially are:
Hannah Amarech

Chloe Desalech
Amarech is the girls' birth mother's name.
We often get questions about Chloe being a biblical name. Chloe is a woman found in the new testament. 1Corinthians 1:11 "For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren , by those of Chloe's household that there are contentions among you." Biblical scholars believe that Chloe had a leading role along side Paul in the starting of the first church.

I love the names...but I truly must comment on their boots! I love them...where did you get them?
We changed all of our children's names to Biblical names too-we just thought it was great to have children that had names in Scripture with great meanings too. They are beautiful!!
I love the fact that you plan and research your names. What an awesome thing to have a name with a Biblical heritage :)
Love it! We too knew no matter the given name, our little girl needed a Biblical name like our Samuel and Josiah and my hubby had Abby picked out for years. So...Abigail it is:-)
Noticed the adorable outfits on your ADORABLE girls!!!
So glad you are settled on the changes! Love the names and spellings -- mostly loving the girls!!! You've been blessed!
