A birthday, a picnic and a pain in the neck dog

I had been looking forward to Saturday September 19th for a really long time! Our adoption agency has picnics all over the country each summer and on Saturday they had one in Wheaton, IL. We decided to go to the one in IL for two reasons. #1. So we could take Isaac to the Lego store in downtown Chicago. He has been wanting to go for a long time and since Sunday was his birthday, we thought it would be a great time to go. #2. So I could finally meet Dawn Prust and Jaxson. We have chatted via email and blog for a long time, so I was really looking forward to meeting her.
We loaded the kids up and we were off for Chicago. We got there at about 10:30a their time. It was our first time driving in a big city. I was proud that we actually found the Lego store the first time around. And without the use of a fancy GPS thing. Can you believe all we used was google map directions and an old fashion map? We are so 20th century.

We then headed to Wheaton for the picnic. Which was about an hour away. It was at a zoo. We weren't able to see any of the animals, but you will find out why in just a second. They had crafts to do and the boys got their faces painted. While we were eating Monte got a phone call from his friend, John, that was letting out Maxine (our dog) for us. All Monte could hear was Max barking like crazy in the background and something about John being scared she was going to bite him. Monte told him not to worry about it and that we would just head home. The kicker is that the Prust's were late, so I literally gave her a hug when she walked in as we were heading for the door. Can you believe that? I was able to meet some other really neat adoptive families though and it still was a good time. We also were planning on going to Gino's after the picnic. It is Chicago style pizza and Monte is in love with it. Oh well, the joys of owning pets, right?

Here are the boys with their faces painted and being silly.

Here are the girls happy as can be. They didn't realize we were still 3 1/2 hours from home!

Saturday was a really long day, so we slept in on Sunday and decided we were going to skip church. We NEVER do this, but Isaac had expressed interest in going to Chuck E. Cheese, so we thought it would be best to go early since it gets crowded quickly. I was a little concerned that the girls would get over stimulated, but they had a blast. They tried all of the toddler rides and loved it. They even tried the roller coaster simulator.

Isaac and his birthday gifts! Our Lego maniac...
Isaac and his soccer cake.

I can't believe that Isaac is already 8. He is a really great kid and he loves his family. He is a very content child and would be happy to stay home all the time (as long as he had plenty of Legos). He is always willing to stop whatever he is doing and help with the girls or help clean. He very rarely will complain when I ask him to do something. He rooms is always SPOTLESS and he likes things in order. I love this about him. Probably because I am the same way! :) He loves playing soccer and is pretty good if I do say so myself! I am proud to call him my son.
Happy 8th Birthday Isaac... I love you!!!!!!

It's Jaxson's fault & the dog's fault!! Jaxson slept an extra hour than normal and we have learned to NEVER wake a sleeping baby. Ever. Ever Ever. I didn't even think to get your cell phone # - duh, that would have been smart. Then I could have given you a heads up that we were going to be late. Anyway... we'll plan to meet up soon! :)

I am sorry Monte had to miss that Chicago pizza. I am in love with it myself. I even joke with Troy that we need to start our own Gino's or Giordano's in Nashville..for some reason I don't think it would go over as well down here:)

Wow! Your girls are really great about traveling in the van :) That makes 3 recent travel weekends. So glad you were able to get everything in and celebrate Issac's birthday. He is a super special guy. Praying for many more blessings for Issac in the coming year.
