This is our third week of being back in school. Because the boys are so close in age, I have never had to deal with two year olds while trying to teach. The first week was ruff. The biggest obstacle is that the girls don't understand inside voices yet. I usually ended the school day with a huge headache. My friend, Brooke gave me a great idea about putting a table cloth down on the floor and having them play on that. I have enough "educational" toys to keep them busy for a while. They actually do very well staying busy, but we are still working on their loudness!
We took a lot of time off this summer. I don't teach school all year around, but we usually are reading or doing math a few times a week. Well, not this summer. I was so busy getting ready for Ethiopia and then once we were home, I was just trying to wade through the sicknesses that kept plaguing us and figuring out life with two more kids (I am still working on the last one). I was so worried that I would have a reteach a lot of spring semester because we didn't follow up in the summer. I couldn't believe that they have retained it all and we are making our way through the new school year. I am so proud of them. They are doing very well. Isaac and John are actually really putting forth the effort and working more independently this year. Praise the Lord!
This is our new school room. This used to be a two story entryway that my father framed in so he could make our old school room into the girls' bedroom. Didn't he do an amazing job? We love it!

So awesome to hear how the Lord just protected their knowledge and you can continue to move forward in your schooling. I am excited to start back to our homeschool year next week. Hoping to make great strides before we travel and bring home an active little one!!!! I'll be following your journey on how to incorporate little ones in to the homeschool day:-)
Your schoolroom is gorgeous! Your dad did a terrific job! Hope that the girls will get use to schooling and learn to play on their own!!! :)
Totally feel you on the how do you school the older ones...and have the younger ones be around too. We do what was suggested to you. Of course it is never perfect, but we absolutely love homeschooling so you do whatever you can! yeah for homeschooling!!! We just started yesterday.
Your school room looks wonderful. Really, you dad did a fantastic job :) Glad to see the girls playing happily on the floor- one thing at a time, right????
Keep up the great work!
Tish look at you go!!! I love the pictures and the school room is great!
You amaze me! The school room is so awesome and I can't imagine doing what you are doing with the two little ones there too! I know for me, just to get laundry done can be a chore with my two-year old girls tearing up everything...often times I put them in their highchairs and give them playdough - lasts for a least an hour or coloring pages and crayons and stickers to play with. They are locked in so I know they are safe and I can get some stuff done too. Just thought those ideas might help you too. :) Hope your school year is great!
big hugs!
Shelly
