John Douglass

Tomorrow we will celebrate our first birthday of the new year! John will turn 8. He has been counting down the days since Christmas {not that I noticed or anything}. I love setting a whole day aside for the family to celebrate the birthday child or children in the girls' case. Trust me, he has the whole day planned. I am sure I will be blogging all about it!

We have decided to forgo all parties this year. With the boys being so close in age, they have a lot of the same friends. What a pain to be invited to 3 parties a year, maybe 4 if they have a younger sister too. I am trying to come up with creative ideas for next year. Any suggestions from my wonderful friends will be taken into consideration!

We just got our first scanner for Christmas, yes I do realize it is 2011... thank you very much! So, I thought I would take a moment to take you all down memory lane.

This is my favorite picture of him in 2010. He LOVES his cat Alex!
John is amazing boy! He has NO fear and loves danger {I am so thankful we haven't had any broken bones and only one fall out of the 2nd story window}. He has always been very independent and pretty strong willed, but we wouldn't want it any other way. He is probably our most competitive child and doesn't like second place, at all. But he also loves BIG. He loves animals and praying for people who are less fortunate than he is. He was the first to ride his bike with no training wheels and he was the first to loose a tooth. His favorite subjects in school are science and reading. We love you John and are so thankful that we get to experience life with you! Happy Birthday John Boy!

Wow! I can't believe how big John is now! It seems like just yesterday I was babysitting for him and Isaac when he was only 3 months old. He was such a snuggler when he was little! Tell him happy birthday for me.

Well we'd love to come to all your parties...however, I totally get you! We started our birthday party tradition when Smarty Pants turned 7. He had just turned 5 when they came to live here, and he was sick as a dog on his 6th bday (although we did manage an hour or two at Chuck E Cheese). His 7th bday, he was still in public school and had made a lot of friends in first grade. We made that the year he could have a 'big' party, outside of family and a few close neighbor friends. We decided once every 3 years, they could have the "big" party. Given that the older 3 are just over 1 year a part, still gives us a 'big' party every year.

Sweet Thing had a big cowgirl party for her 7th bday party...it was a lot of fun. Drama Mama decided she wanted to postpone her 7th bday party and have it at Disney instead. So even though her bday is in April and we went to Disney in Sept, we celebrated it there. She wore her bday pin almost every day and several times, got an extra special dessert from the restaurants. Everyone telling her happy birthday was RIGHT up her alley!

Since SP just turned 10, we did the bowling party...and sadly missed your boys!! We do them in Jan following his Christmas time bday so he has a better shot at friends being free to come.

Goofy Girl just turned 5 last fall, so we have some time before she gets the big party. Plus her birthday is several months away from everyone else's, which helps! All the other 4 are at the first half of the year, with 3 being within 2 months of each other (5 if you count Papa and I!! )

Happy Birthday John!! Love the baby pictures!!
