Most of you know we have two children on a gluten free diet. I have gotten used to what they can and can't eat, but along the way I have learned a lot about our food supply. I used to think that not eating high fructose corn syrup was enough, but it is so much more than that. I have learned that most of our food is genetically modified (GM). Not only is it not good for us, it is completely going against God's creation. You can read more about GMO foods HERE.
I have slowly started ridding our family of GM foods. Basically it means going organic. Organic is expensive and I find myself exceeding the budget each and every month.
That was until Saturday... when I hit the jackpot!
I have had two friends (Brooke and Monica) tell me about Angelo's recently and Saturday was the first time I was able to go and check it out for myself.
It is a scratch and dent grocery store stocked with organic foods (no fruits, veggies, meat or milk) at extremely discounted prices. It was so fun to be able to actually get lots of organic and gluten free things and not worry about the price!
Here is what I got for $84 (everything was organic, except for the butter)
For those of you who don't care about buying organic, they also have conventional food too!

SERIOUS jackpot! We had a similar "truck recovery" place but they had THINGS not food and they went out of business! UGH! I would go with $100 because I could get so many great things with a little digging that was BRAND NEW just scratch and dent. Miss that place. Wish we had your new favorite grocery store near us too!
I'm amazed at how much I have to learn about food and going back to trying to eat more in it's original form. Now I'm completely turned off by all of those boxed up foods on the grocery shelves. It seems like a lot of people are starting to see that those "foods" aren't what our bodies need.
Great find on the store! Way to go!
I want to talk to you about this. Can't wait to see you on Friday. Hope we can find some time to talk amidst the craziness!
It is so nice to have friends that eat the same types of foods. My kids appreciate knowing that they are not the only kids who are not allowed to eat GM or processed foods. While I am a little sad about Chick-fil-a and Sonic, I know it is the best for our kids (and ourselves). Glad Angelos was worth your time and efforts.
BTW- they do accept checks with ID :)
geez!!!!!!!!! gluten free, i can't imagine, what a great find, we used to be all organic , even raised our own chickens, not fun
Yea!!!!!!!! I am from Indy too and I found your blog through a comment from another blog and I NEVER knew about Angelo's. I also do mostly organic and from scratch stuff. I am so going there tomorrow and checking it out. Thank you! Oh and I like your blog.
