I turned Amish for the morning

This morning I took the boys to the zoo. We (like I own the zoo or something) have koala bears on "loan" for the summer. I wanted to make sure the boys got to see them while they were awake. They sleep like 21 hours a day, my new favorite animal for sure! I read that the best time to see them is in the morning. So I dragged myself out of bed at a ridiculous hour... 8am, to make sure we made it there when it opened at 9am. Good thing we live close and I believe in not showering every other day now and then.

So we made it there good and early and we raced to the koalas. The boys were exhausted by the time we got to the exhibit, but we made it. We saw the koalas alright... THEIR BACKS... WHILE THEY WERE SLEEPING! I was more disappointed than the boys.

I have always had a huge small obsession with Australia and I treasure anything that is originally from that great island. My life long dream is to go there before I die. I would even like to live there, but I think that is out of the question.

OK... back to the zoo.

Before we left the house I realized I left my camera in the van. Monte takes the van to work each and every day, so we were out of luck. I thought, no big deal... we'll see the koalas more than once while they are here.

Well... today was probably the WORST day for me to NOT have my camera. For some strange reason we were hitting the special attractions at the perfect times. We have had a membership to the zoo for years now and this has never happened.

We fed giraffes, something I have wanted the boys to do since they have been babies!

We saw an elephant get bathed, it was amazing.

Oh, I am not finished...

we TOUCHED the elephant, absolutely breath taking.

Without a camera, I can't even believe it.

So just picture my cute kids doing all those things, please.

So the Amish and I had something in common today (there are always a TON at the zoo)... neither of us were taking pictures...ugh!

As we were driving away Isaac exclaims from the backseat "Mom, this was the best day at the zoo ever."

Perfect.

Wow!! We've never seen that much action at the zoo. We haven't renewed our membership in quite some time for that very reason. I think it not fun to push around a stroller all day with kids that are "too hot".

Maybe next time? Better yet, maybe Monte ought to buy you a camera of your own:)
